Did you know that homeschooling is illegal in Germany and children have been taken away (one teenager placed in a mental hospital) for the crime of homeschooling.

It makes me glad I do not live in Germany. Homeschooling is,
given ideal circumstances for their students, almost always the BEST solution.
It enables them to have a completely personalized schooling, designed to assist them in areas in which they have difficulty and to help them excel in areas in which they are gifted. It must teach lessons of various sorts in social interaction, how to be part of a team, and many other things. However, it has fewer risks and FAR greater rewards than the
government or private-schooling, and on average affords a far superior result.

I feel that it's ridiculous. A parent should be the one to decide where a child attends school.

Wow - can't believe it's illegal in Germany to homeschool. Sad, really that nations all around the worlds have come to this. It's like we 'make' the kids and the government 'owns' them!

I am totally for homeschooling. I have people in my family that homeschool their children and they are far brighter than children in the system.

It takes perserverance and once you get a routine down, I'm sure that it would be quite rewarding for both the parent and child.

Nowadays, there are just so many resources on the internet that you could basically do it without using a set curriculum, or if one is uncomfortable - you can use the resources / packages available through places like Calvert.

Personally, when I taught in a private school, we used Saxon and I really enjoyed it. It's very systematic and organized - something to help a new homeschooling parent when they are just starting out.

Good topic though!

Well, I truly believe in the whole idea, but wouldn't do something that is prohibited in the area I live. Wouldn't be worth the risk...
